Abstract

The study was undertaken to find out the technological constraints of canal irrigation system by water users. An attempt was made to secure the responses about the judicious use of canal water and to identify the various technological constraints perceived by them about canal irrigation system in the area of investigation. Kendrapara Block and four villages in it, were selected purposively, whereas the respondents were selected by random sampling method. The major findings of the study were: ninety two per cent of the farmers opined that credit was not available as per the requirement, the farmers got least information about canal irrigation system from co-operative societies, eighty five per cent of the respondents opined that water was not being supplied to the fields at the time of operations, the social constraints were, problems of labour, problems of land fragmentation, tenancy, lack of co-operative water management, lack of farmers participation in water management.

Abstract

The present study was conducted in Bolpur-sriniketan and Sainthia block of Birbhum district of West Bengal by selecting 60 sample farmers to find out the level of technology adoption for major food grain crops among different categories of farmers.For technology adoption level, a technology adoption index was constructed by taking relevant parameters. It was observed that the level of modern farm technology adoption was not encouraging in the study area and it was positively correlated with size of land holding. Rice emerged as the main foodgrain crop in the area. The overall average technology adoption index for Rabi rice (64.66%) was higher than Kharif rice (56.16%). Overall technology adoption index were 56.03 per cent, 36 per cent and 37.21 per cent for wheat, chickpea and lentil, respectively. Level of technology adoption was not only varied among the major foodgrain crops but among different categories of farmers also.

Abstract

This study was carried out in Haringhata Block, comprising rural areas and villages in the district of Nadia under West Bengal Comprehensive Area Development Corporation (WBCADC). This study was conducted to assess the socio-economic status and to find out the extend of success in generation of the income of the member of SHGs maintained or supervised under West Bengal Comprehensive area Development Corporation. 10 SHGs were randomly selected out of 350 SHGs, by using the cluster sampling approach or technique. The data were processed into frequency and percentage, mean and method of paired comparisons. From this study, it can be inferred that a sporadic attempt had been made by the Corporation for successful implementation with their proper planning at the local level for their overall development. Also, they offered the proper care and nourishment of the group members and their activities in those certain areas. This study proved that their average monthly income had been enhanced. The members had tremendous energy and efforts to start their own enterprises provided the appropriate opportunities.

Abstract

The Krishi Projukti Sahayaks (KPSs) are the grass ischolar_main level workers for technology dissemination to the villagers/farmers. In such situation, it was determined to study the problems in implementing the extension activities by the KPSs and measured suggested by them for improvement. The present study had been conducted in ten blocks of Katwa and Kalna sub-division of Burdwan district in West Bengal. The most successful extension works conducted by the KPSs were related to changing cropping pattern, in fertilizer management, changes in plant protection measures and high yielding variety cultivation on the basis of survey of the problems and suggestions from the KPSs have emerged.
